Round 1: (3) Happy Hippo, Angry Duck vs. (14) Hickory Dickory Dock

Of mice and moods.

Happy Hippo, Angry Duck
by Sandra Boynton
Available in board book, hardcover, and Kindle formats. (Amazon)

This one is a big favorite for H., maybe because it's a nice easy poem to memorize, and I used to quote it at him all the time when he was tiny. It's got all the cute Boynton animals, and a little light comedy to boot. It's a pretty bog-standard Boynton book, so if you're a fan, you should add this to your list.

Hickory Dickory Dock
Available in board book format. (Amazon)

This is another nursery rhyme finger puppet book. Pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. I mean, I could expound (and I am, but pretty much just to fill some space), but why would you need me to?

Match-up Analysis

Happy Hippo, Angry Duck seems like a shoe-in on the surface. It's usually a big hit. But, on the other hand, it hasn't been in the rotation quite as much lately, and H. is typically a big fan of finger puppet books. But, on the other, other hand, finger puppet books have been fairly hit or miss in the tournament.

Prediction

Happy Hippo, Angry Duck in a close one.

Results

At first, H. tried to pick both of them, but then on second thought, he chose Happy Hippo, Angry Duck.

Up Next

Happy Hippo, Angry Duck will battle it out with the winner of Spooky, Spooky Little Bat and Batman Shapes on April 23rd.
