Round 1: (7) Jungle Book vs. (10) Sleep Baby, Safe And Snug

Wild beasts and sleepy children!

Jungle Book
by Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver
Available in board book and Kindle formats. (Amazon)

The final BabyLit entry, the Jungle Book is, as you might've guessed, an animals primer. Having no real familiarity with the Jungle Book outside of the old Disney movie (though I do need to check out the new one because Bill Murray as Baloo sounds like it is right up my alley), there are quite a few animals whose role in the story I'm not remotely familiar with, like Ikki, the porcupine, and Tabaqui, the jackal.

That said, though, H. really only cares about Shere Khan, who shows up on both the front and back cover as well as twice inside, so as far as he's concerned, this is golden.

Sleep Baby, Safe and Snug
by Dr. John Hutton and Leah Busch
Available in board book format. (Amazon)

Sleep Baby, Safe and Snug was part of a gift bag given to us by the hospital when we checked out after H. was born. Most of it was cute-but-informative stuff about SIDS prevention, which, let me tell you, I am SO glad to not have to live in a constant state of terror about anymore. The book is, naturally, about all the different precautions you need to take, which, if you're anything like we were, you'll end up compromising with yourself on almost immediately because, oh my god, it's been two weeks already and he screams non-stop if we put him in his crib and he just won't sleep at all unless I'm holding him and I am literally going insane from sleep deprivation.

*ahem*

So yeah, good book, very useful.

Match-up Analysis

H. likes both of these well enough, although, as I said, he's always been rather smitten with Shere Khan, which could give Jungle Book a leg up.

Prediction

Jungle Book squeaks by with a win.

Results

H. picked Jungle Book so hard, he practically yanked it out of his dad's hands.

Up Next

Jungle Book will face off against Global Baby Boys on April 22nd.
