Round 1: (3) ABC Is For Circus vs (14) A Day With The Little Prince

Lions and Tigers and Space Royalty, oh my!

ABC Is For Circus
by Patrick Hruby
Available in board book and hardcover formats. (Amazon)

This was a gift H. received for his birthday, and it's seen some use since then. It's a pretty standard ABC book, set at a circus and featuring really neat geometric art with lots of colors and contrasts. It does face some of the standard ABC book problems, such as, "why would there be an x-ray machine at the circus?", but on the whole, it's pretty much a perfect baby-attention-grabber.

A Day With The Little Prince
by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Available in board book format. (Amazon)

The Little Prince is one of my personal favorites. It's a classic, with a fantastic message and delightful art, and if you haven't read it, you owe it to yourself to go pick up the original English translation and check it out. It's well worth it.

A Day With The Little Prince is a super short version of the story just focused on the prince's day on his little planet. When I say super short, I mean it: you can probably knock it out in about 30 seconds. As a result, it's become a staple bedtime story for those nights when we have a limited amount of time to get the ticking H. Bomb in bed before he goes off.

Match-up Analysis

This could be an interesting match-up. ABC Is For Circus is always a popular choice, and as H. is picking up letters like crazy lately, it stands to do pretty well. A Day With The Little Prince is no lightweight either, despite it's size, and the fact that H. knows we'll sometimes read it twice because of its length could give it a slight advantage.

Prediction

T is for tiger will guide ABC Is For Circus to victory.

Results

H. chose ABC Is For Circus so hard we had to read it twice.

Up Next

ABC Is For Circus will duke it out with the winner of tomorrow night's match-up between Superheroes ABC 123 and Dr. Seuss' ABCs.
