Round 1: (4) My Turtle And Me vs. (13) A To Z

Will T stand for "turtles" or "total upset"?

My Turtle And Me
by Owen Bernstein
Available in board book and hardcover formats. (Amazon)

I'm sure any fellow parents out there are familiar with The Turtle. You know the one. If your kid doesn't have it, you probably know a kid who does. Apparently it's a must-have for a lot of them. I have seen multiple social media posts from parents desperately trying to find one when they forgot it on vacation, or their kid left it at grandma's over the weekend. The Turtle is ubiquitous.

Somehow, H. never got The Turtle. But he did get this book, which discusses at length all the things a kid and his turtle can do together that will make the turtle twinkle, or glimmer, or whatever else synonym for "light up". I'd imagine it's somewhat confusing for kids who don't have The Turtle, since, you know, there's just not a lot of incandescent turtles in the wild. Fortunately, all H. cares about is the fact that there's a huge light-up button on this book, actual turtle biology bedarned.

A To Z
by Sandra Boynton
Available in board book format. (Amazon)

Oh, look, another ABC book. This one is all animals. It's a fairly new book for H., and I don't think he's flipped through it more than a couple of times, but it's Boynton, and that's always a crowdpleaser. Not really a whole lot that can be said outside of that.

Match-up Analysis

My Turtle and Me features a big shiny button that H. just recently learned how to press on his own. A To Z is just another ABC book that tries to shoehorn "xylophone" into an unrelated theme.

Prediction

My Turtle and Me wins with a solid 3 minute button-pushing session.

Results

H. didn't even consider the button on his way to picking A To Z.

Up Next

A To Z competes against the winner of Doggies and My First Book of Superpowers on April 13th.
