First 100 Trucks
by Roger Priddy
Available in board book, hardcover, and Kindle formats. (Amazon)
We've got another First 100 book tonight, this time for "trucks", which really just means "stuff with wheels, or without wheels but that you could conceivably use for some sort of transportation." Or, if you're H., just "Car! Car! Car! Car! Car!" The terminology used is kind of...vaguely British? Not to the extent of calling them "lorries" or anything like that, but some of it just feels slightly off (a VW minibus is a "camper", but Matt Foley's van is a "minivan"?), and several of the auto makes shown are only familiar if you've watched way too much Top Gear.
Or perhaps it's just badly translated into American. I mean, I'm not really sure how else you'd justify calling a hot air balloon a truck, but maybe that's just me.
Blue Hat, Green Hat
by Sandra Boynton
Available in board book, hardcover, and Kindle formats. (Amazon)
Blue Hat, Green Hat takes us to a wild, whimsical fashion show featuring three fully competent animals and an idiotic turkey. Turkey is seemingly incapable of putting his clothes on their appropriate body parts, probably not unlike your toddler.
But perhaps Turkey is on to something. Perhaps this is cutting-edge, avant garde fashion. Soon all the most stylish celebrities will be wearing their clothes wrong. First, it's Kate Middleton wearing a pair of pants wrapped around her neck like a scarf. Then Socks On The Nose is the theme of next year's Met Gala. Pants-on-head couture becomes so commonplace that Lady Gaga shows up on the red carpet in a tasteful ballgown and it's considered shocking.
Someone get Vogue on the phone, Turkey has a new fall line to debut for Fashion Week.
Match-up Analysis
Look. Let's be real here. It's a book full of cars vs. a dumb turkey. This is pretty much a walk in the park for First 100 Trucks.
Prediction
Blue Hat, Green Hat is going to be absolutely slaughtered.
Results
Yeah, it was no contest. First 100 Trucks for the win.
Up Next
First 100 Trucks will face off against the winner of Out and About and Farm Numbers on April 15th.
