Round 1: (4) Things That Go vs. (13) Look Look

It's a new hotness versus an old favorite.

Things That Go
by DK Publishing
Available in board book and Kindle formats. (Amazon)

Things That Go will be a tough one to beat. H. is nuts for cars, and this book has tons of them. It even has a section on toy cars and little kids playing with them, packing a one-two punch. That said, this book isn't usually a bedtime book, as it tends to live in the den with his toys. It'll be anyone's guess if that affects his choice.

Look Look
by Peter Linenthal
Available in board book, hardcover, and Kindle formats. (Amazon)

One of the myriad things we learned in a frantic late night Google session during H's first few weeks of life was that newborns don't see in color at first, and they're drawn to high contrast images, which Look Look is full of. We picked it up in the hopes it might entertain him long enough for me to inhale a Pop Tart, use the bathroom, or cry it out in a corner because I hadn't slept for more than two hours in a row since before he was born. He liked it well enough at the time, but now that he's in full-blown toddlerhood, it hasn't been as popular a choice.

Match-up Analysis

Cars are always going to be a huge draw for H., and that puts Look Look at a big disadvantage. Look Look does boast a page about kitties, but there's not a great chance that H. will remember that since he hasn't picked it up in months. It's really going to have to lean on the contingency that H. thinks of Things That Go as a book for playtime, and not for bedtime.

Prediction

Things That Go drives away with the whole thing.

Results

As predicted, H. went with Things That Go and didn't look back.

Up Next

Things That Go takes it's shot against the winner of tomorrow night's match-up between The Count's Castle and Bob.
